June Virtual Meeting: PR Lessons from the Campaign Trail

In December of 2019, Chad McLeod, APR, CPRC, became Lakeland’s newest city commissioner. In this session, Chad will discuss the PR principles that helped shape his messaging strategy and share how he used unconventional methods, like a campaign podcast, to connect with potential voters. He will also share lessons learned along the campaign trail when addressing voter concerns and hot-button topics.
About the Presenter
Chad McLeod is the owner and president of McLeod Communications, a public relations and communications consulting firm based in downtown Lakeland. As the former Southwest Florida Regional Director for U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL), Chad spent five years traveling the state and working on issues such as housing and urban development, agriculture, the environment and more.
Since founding McLeod Communications in 2012, Chad has consulted for a variety of clients in multiple industries, including AAA — The Auto Club Group, TECO Energy, Consumer Energy Alliance Florida, Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches and many others. He is the past president of the Florida Public Relations Association – Tampa Bay Chapter, and a former member of the FPRA State Executive Committee. He holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Florida and a master of business administration from Florida State University. He has lived abroad in Venezuela and speaks fluent Spanish.
Chad and his wife, Erin, are members of the Florida Foster and Adoptive Parent Association and attend Trinity Presbyterian Church. When he’s not chasing his three kids around, he enjoys running the streets of Lakeland and spending time outdoors.
